Questions About Our Practice
What type of dental insurance do you accept?
We accept all private and public dental plans.
What does my insurance cover?
There are over 30,000 dental insurance plans in Ontario. We will work with you to find out what your plan covers, however your plan is a legal contract between you and the insurance company and we cannot be part of that contract. You are responsible for whatever portion is not covered by the plan. To avoid any confusion we can submit an estimate to your insurance company prior to initiating treatment.
Does your office submit the insurance claim?
All claims are submitted electronically. Although this ensures rapid reimbursement of the claim, we appreciate payment of the uncovered portion at each appointment.
How can I pay?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Debit, and cash.
What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?
Your appointment is booked specifically for you based on the procedure and its complexity. We contact you one week and one day before your appointment with a courtesy reminder. We understand that circumstances change however we request a minimum of 2 full business days notice to change or cancel your appointment otherwise a charge may be levied.
Where is the practice located?
We are located at 20 Yonge Street, the northeast corner of Yonge and York Mills Road, on the second floor.
How do I get there by TTC?
We are directly above the York Mills subway station. Proceed up the escalators to the York Mills Center. Take the elevator or escalator to the second floor to suite 206. There is an information booth on the ground floor if directions are necessary.
Where do I park?
There are two underground parking garages. We recommend using the York Mills entrance which is located at the eastern extremity of the building on York Mills Road (please see map). Proceed directly to P2 and park close to the green elevator marked 20 York Mills Road. Take the elevator directly to the 2nd floor and turn left. We are the first office on the right with the large glass door. We pay for your parking!
Are you open on the weekend?
We are not open on weekends, but we work until 6:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to accommodate those who don’t want to take time off work.
Oral Health & Hygiene Questions
How often should I have my teeth professionally cleaned?
Ideally, you should have a professional cleaning performed at our office every 6 months, and more frequently (every 3 to 4 months) if you have gum disease.
How often do I need X-rays?
Usually once a year although sometimes less frequently if there has been a consistent history of no tooth decay and gum disease.
How often should I brush and floss?
At least twice a day, ideally when you first wake up, and again before you go to bed.
Why do my gums bleed?
This is because of inflammation of the gums (gingivitis). It occurs in 85% of the population and can be prevented with excellent oral hygiene. Good home care (brushing and flossing) and regular dental cleanings are critical.
How soon will Dr. Cox see me if I have an emergency?
Urgent emergencies involving toothache or pain are seen within 24 hours and usually the same day. Elective emergencies such as missing fillings or broken teeth are seen as soon as possible, usually during our lunch break or at the earliest availability.
Do you do braces?
No we don't, but we will refer you to a certified orthodontist closest to your home or office.
